Morning Hike at Tesuque

Today was another gorgeous day with cool temperatures and bright blue skies.  We decided to hike from the Big Tesuque Campground for a few miles through the woods with tall Aspens, Douglass Fir, Pine, and many wildflowers and songbirds.  A small stream running with water was a relief from the desert like conditions of our horseback riding adventure yesterday.

It was a good hike for us.  We were at about 10,000 feet and didn’t have many problems with the lack of oxygen unless we were walking uphill. The change from Wednesday’s arid surroundings with little vegetation to today’s drive and walk in forests was remarkable.

Jake drove us through other nearby scenic spots, going to the top of the mountain so we could enjoy the view.

We came home for lunch and then read/napped for a few hours.  Then we headed to Santa Fe where we purchased items at the plaza from the street vendors and looked at pottery and other beautiful items in several stores.  Pete and I both bought hats.  Then we went to a roof top restaurant to have a snack.

We went out to dinner at a mostly Italian restaurant in Tesuque, a short drive from the house.  On the way home, we stopped where a fort had been in the 1800’s.  We could see a panorama of distant mountains with Santa Fe in the foreground.  The last remnants of sunset were visible.
