A cold but sunny Sunday was the perfect day for a trip to Havre de Grace Decoy Museum. We left home around 11:15 am for the hour and a half drive through the upper shore and across the Susquehanna to the town of Havre de Grace.
The museum was great with many decoys and an explanation of duck and goose hunting in years gone by in the region. Several famous carvers were featured with somewhat disconcerting wax statues and information about their decoys and carving techniques.
Upstairs, there were even more decoys in cases. That room was sunny and warm with inviting benches by the floor to ceiling windows. A balcony overlooking the Susquehanna Flats was closed for the season.
After leaving the museum, we walked on the shoreline promenade and observed a great blue heron, broad bills, geese and other waterfowl. A bald eagle flew overhead and landed in a tall sycamore tree right beside an old mansion now being used as a condominium. Imagine looking out your condo window to see an eagle perched in a nearby tree.
We went to La Cucina Italian restaurant in town before starting home. It was a fun place to go with awesome Italian food. We arrived home just before dark in time to let Rosie out for a run.
A cold day well spent.
