Burt is a retired game warden that worked in Talbot County for 20+ years. He invites me goose, duck and deer hunting regularly and has some really great spots to hunt. However, he told me this year he would like to try other spots, so I invited him up to my goose blind on the Rochester tract of Chino Farms. I felt kinda silly asking him to hunt my spot since it is not nearly as good as his spots.
We were set up at 8:00 am and had a steady flight of geese for most of the next three hours, with lulls of course. We had two different pairs toll in completely and took all four birds nicely. He ended up on the downwind side of the blind and called the shots – he passed on some possible flybys waiting for good tolls. This approach paid off with really nice committed tolls eventually – maybe I learned something.
He said my method of hunting with the golf cart, well brushed blind and decoy rig was all “perfect”, a satisfying evaluation from someone that has hunted geese for over 50 years.
