Today we drove separate vehicles to Chinle so that tomorrow we can be ready by 8 am to do a tour of the Canyon de Chelly.
It was a long but very scenic drive through areas with amazing rock formations and little vegetation. In Arizona, we noticed more trees and plants and some wide open spaces between the mountains. We wonder if areas west of the continental divide get more rain and therefore are more green.
Along the way, we stopped at Grandma’s Restaurant in Crownpoint. It worked out great for lunch. Then we went to Gallup where many of the shops were closed. We walked around a bit, found a nice coffee shop and got snacks.
Then, on to Window Rock, the capital of the Navaho Nation. The scenery was awesome.
Finally we got to Chinle, checked in and had dinner.
