After finishing a quiche for breakfast (thank goodness), we stopped by the NRG Visitor Center but decided not to wait in line to enter.  We decided to drive to Grandview to hike trails there. The view of the gorge is incredible and very accessible. The drive was about an hour and was easy.

We hiked the Grandview Rim Trail to Turkey Spur and Gayle remembers going up to the overlook with H. W. Ware and others. There is a narrow space between rocks that works as a natural air conditioner, funneling cooler air downward. Fantastic views while hiking and at the overlooks.

People were polite and quiet at the overlooks except for one couple talking on speaker phone at a dramatic overlook. Give us a break!

We also noted many out of state license plates including a couple of cars from as far away as Texas.

We hit the city of Beckley after hiking and had a meal from Chick-fil-a on the road. We stopped by Lowes and then went on to Summersville for Nathan’s soccer game.
